We attended the 97th NCSS Annual Social Studies Conference this year as we have for the past several years. For the first time in 30 years, the conference was in San Francisco.
More than 3,300 educators from all over the country attended the event this year, and we got to meet quite a few of them!
Official Adoption in California
You may have seen that we were recently officially adopted in the Golden State (and also recently in Florida)! We were thrilled to meet and share our products with hundreds of dedicated California educators. Many didn’t know before visiting our booth that our products cover 100% of the state standards for history-social science.
It was great to celebrate the adoption with teachers in California, and help them see the impact we can make in their classrooms. It feels great to be on the approved vendor list in California, and we are excited to work even more with California educators!
Studies Weekly Expert Presentations
Over 900 leading social studies researchers were present at the conference to give presentations on relevant topics. In fact, two of Studies Weekly’s own provided some expert information.
Loki Mulholland is an award-winning film director and the son of notable civil rights activist and Freedom Rider Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. He was also responsible for the Veterans Day video assembly we did last month. Loki gave some great tips during his presentation on teaching civil rights in the classroom.
We were also proud to have Cody Erickson on our team to present at this social studies conference. Cody presented on Studies Weekly product processes and procedures.
We set up in a 20×30 square foot booth with displays of samples of our publications. We had a great spot right by the door and loved seeing all the teachers as they came in. In addition to showcasing our print materials, we had tech illustrating our product, primary source media library, and digital tools.
One of our favorite things about NCSS conference this year was giving away awesome prizes to dozens of deserving teachers. Many of you were able to grab a swag bag, catch a demo, and spin our prize wheel. Over three days, we gave away 15 tablets, 18 Amazon Echos, and dozens of alarm clocks, classroom posters, and more.
While our feet are still tired, we are happy to have made new memories with many of you!
Plans for Future Social Studies Conference
For our next social studies conference, you can find us at ASCD Empower18: The Conference for Every Educator, which will be in Boston in March next year. If you’re going to be there, be sure to stop by our booth and say hi! If not, we will see you next year at NCSS 2018 in Chicago!
