Studies Weekly Partners with Ukraine for Student Well-Being

June 2, 2023 • Studies Weekly

Studies Weekly is providing wellness materials to all elementary children in Ukraine.

In August 2022, Studies Weekly started working with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to bring Studies Weekly’s elementary-level social-emotional Well-Being program free to Ukrainian students in an effort to help them thrive in their war-torn world.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science issued a press release about the partnership May 31, 2023. The link to that is:

The English translation of the release is as follows:

As part of the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, to create the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program, the Ministry of Education and Science is implementing a priority project called “Psychosocial Support and Psychological Assistance at all Levels of Education.”

One of the components of the project is the integration of social-emotional learning (SEL) into the educational content, aimed at acquiring skills beneficial for a child’s mental health. The World Health Organization defines mental health as a state of well-being in which every individual can realize their own potential, cope with life’s stresses, work productively and fruitfully, and make a contribution to their community. Therefore, SEL provides an opportunity to acquire these valuable skills during education, which many adults lack, especially during times of war. Such education will be beneficial for students and educators. Approximately 65% of teachers (in the USA) acknowledge that using such courses enhances their own sense of life balance.

In May 2023, the American company Studies Weekly, Inc. provided Ukraine with educational manuals on social-emotional learning called Well-Being for grades 1-6. To translate the manuals into Ukrainian, a company called Transcend Translation, a veteran-owned business, was engaged as a partner. The course based on these manuals has been successfully taught in the USA, and its materials were developed in accordance with the concept of “Collaboration for Social-Emotional Learning” (CASEL).

The Coordination Center for Mental Health at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ensures support and coordination in the development and implementation of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program “How Are You?”, initiated by the First Lady Olena Zelenska, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO). The Interdepartmental Coordination Council of the Cabinet of Ministers serves as a platform for decision-making.
